Join a fostering movement to make change for young people in care!
#CoffeeToFoster HomeThere isn’t just one type of fostering – there are many, which you can look at here.
Every child is different, and every foster carer is different. We encourage diversity. Foster carers are ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
You need to be open-minded, willing to learn and ready to engage in the fostering process...
Going into care is the final option for a child when their home environment is too unsafe to live in.
Foster carers aren't perfect people. It doesn't matter if you don't fit the 'normal' mould: what's important is that you can own your past, be truthful, listen, be non-judgemental, be ready to learn and understand the young person in your care - these are the qualities that outweigh all else.
And that's because you are expected to attend regular training, to regularly check in with a social work team, and because fostering is also a vocation as much as it's about parenting.
Matching a child and their foster family is a careful considered process. We match young people and their foster carers to their individual strengths, habits and lifestyles to ensure that it feels stable for all involved.
You are not too old to foster.
If you're over 21, then you're not too young to foster.
All sexualities, gender identities and races are welcomed equally.
If you have a ‘chequered past’ that you have overcome, it doesn’t mean you can’t foster.
If you are single you can still foster.
If you haven't had children, you can still foster.
