My name is Bryony Day, and I’m the Marketing Manager here at Blue Sky Fostering.
I joined Blue Sky two years ago. Initially, I worked solely for the Devon and Cornwall hub, but the role quickly expanded. I now manage marketing for the agency as a whole.
At its core, my role is about sharing the stories of foster carers and staff at Blue Sky. I spend time listening to people’s experiences and finding the best ways to tell those stories – whether through articles, videos, or events – so that others can understand who we are as an agency.
The other half of my job is making sure those stories reach as many people as possible. That means creating content, running campaigns, and promoting events across various channels.
My career has always followed my interests, and marketing has been a common thread throughout. I actually started out in film production and co-founded a social enterprise that supported a youth charity. That blend of creativity and purpose has shaped the roles I’ve taken since.
Blue Sky Fostering stood out to me because it combined all the things I look for in a role: it’s meaningful, it’s a space to learn, and it’s work that does good in the world.
Last week we hosted a free community day in Bearsted, Kent. I helped organise the event and promoted it to the local community. Loads of families came along with their children to enjoy the activities we put on.
Afterwards, many parents came up to thank us – and for me, it was pure joy. It was the perfect moment: I’d marketed a successful event, helped share what Blue Sky Fostering is all about, and created something meaningful for the local community. That’s what it’s all about.
Busy – and wonderfully varied! I might be:
Editing a short film
Designing marketing materials
Coordinating a recruitment campaign
Planning or attending events
Interviewing a foster carer
Writing up articles (like this one!)
Every day is different, and I love that. It gives me the opportunity to develop my skills across communication and content creation, while staying connected to the mission.
I do a little yoga every morning. I’m currently working on a huge collage project at home, and I love going out dancing whenever I can.
Most weekends feel perfect to me. I love sitting in a coffee shop with the newspaper, playing cards with my step-kids, husband, and friends. Living in Devon, we’re lucky to have beautiful beaches and countryside walks nearby. There’s always something lovely to do – but honestly, a relaxed day on the sofa is just as great sometimes!
In the past two years, I’ve learned so much from speaking to foster carers and staff at Blue Sky. Before joining, I didn’t realise you receive an allowance, or that you get such comprehensive training and support throughout your fostering journey.
If you’re thinking about it – I’d say stop thinking and start finding out. Just make contact. You don’t need to commit right away. The first step is simply to learn more about fostering. That’s how you’ll know if it’s the right path for you.
Tracy shares insights into the challenges and joys of working in Parent and Child fostering, the importance of tailored support, and what makes this role so uniquely impactful for both foster carers and the families they support.
As Blue Sky Fostering marks its 20th anniversary this year, Rupert reflects on two decades of fostering. Recounting the agency’s humble beginnings, to the countless lives of young people that have been transformed.
Abbey Knight, Deputy Placements Manager at Blue Sky Fostering, explains the qualities foster carers need, and why fostering can be one of the most life-changing roles you’ll ever take on.
